The Law of Expectations

“We don’t see things as they are. We see things as we are.”
Anais Nin
“We become what we think about all day long.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Once upon a time, a young prince named Merlin lived in a far-off kingdom. Despite his noble upbringing, he always thought he was not good enough. He was clumsy with his sword and thought he could never make his father proud of him. Thus, he fell victim to the Law of Expectations.

One day, a wizard appeared and offered to teach him about magic. However, he warned him that his endeavors were only as powerful as his expectations. Skeptically, Merlin agreed and soon realized his natural talent for magic. He set his expectations higher as he practiced, and his powers grew stronger. Eventually, Merlin became a magnificent magician. So, when we returned home, he helped many people.

This story tells us that our expectations indeed shape our reality. But, also, raising our expectations can open us to greater possibilities and potential.

The main question is if we create our beliefs based on our experience or if our experiences form through our beliefs. Naturally, we would say the former applies. Something happens to us, and we develop our beliefs based on that. However, giving it a second thought, we might see what we believe or expect is actually happening, thus forming our experience.

Our beliefs and expectations create a filter or a lens for our experiences. For example, when we see the world as loving and kind, whatever we see goes through that filter. The same applies if we see the world as unjust and unfair. If we think we cannot trust people, we will find evidence to support this belief.

The key to the Law of Expectations is cultivating new expectations based on pure intentions. We may not have been able to accomplish something in the past due to a lack of experience. However, we grew up, and it is time to rethink our expectations and escape the pitfall of a “self-fulfilling prophecy”. Just because something was a sure way until now does not mean it needs to continue like this. By changing our expectations, our reality inevitably reshapes.

The first two steps of Alchemy, Calcination and Dissolution, help us purge all our false beliefs, unhealthy patterns, impure thoughts, false concepts, and illusions. As a result, we can reevaluate our expectations from a heart-centered place of purity, creating a highly favorable reality.
